Borrowed Earth Cafe Raw Vegan Restaraunt

Borrowed Earth Cafe Review:

The first thing I felt as I was staring at the Borrowed Earth Cafe menu postered to the entranceway window was wow, how will I ever decide what to order? it all sounds good, and thats an understatement...

If you've never experienced well defined raw food before its immensley flavorful, decorative, and very very tasty! For anyone considering getting started with raw foods visit a raw food restaraunt. This will give you a more balanced view of how raw food is put together. For me my eyes were opened. I had been living in a box as far as raw vegan food was concerned.

The Borrowed Earth Cafe really showed me how I could diversify the spectrum of foods I was currently considering using as part of my meal plan. This opened up the world of using nuts and seeds to create delicious worlds of sauces, nut cheeses and milks, and of course that a salad is certainly not confined to lettuce tomato and the house dressing.

As far as the cafe is concerned, the atmosphere is immaculate, clean, friendly, and open. The aura is warm and inviting and theres great mood music emanating from the ceiling. I sat down at the counter which opens directly to the (un)cooking area, where the cafe's resident chef was cutting up fresh avocados right in front of me. I was immediately brought a carafe of reverse osmosis water (Most restaraunts serve tap water and thats it.)

The Other choices were to sit outside at a pleasantly reserved sidewalk area surrounded by beautiful wildflowers, or in a cheerfully decorated table surrounded by wonderfully accentedwalls. However, Sitting by the kitchen is the fun part. There are even two television screens above the dining counter so you can get another perspective within the kitchen.

I decided to start off with a Yerba Mate Latte - My first choice would have been to give the green smoothie a run, but it had been too long since I had a yerba mate latte, let alone with fresh raw almond milk. It Was reminiscent of a warm chai latte with a cinnamon and clove spice.

I finally decided upon the burrito. This was the best choice I have made to date. A raw blend of nuts seasoned to perfection, topped with guacamole all wrapped up in a dehydrated corn torilla. On the side were three equally impressive side salads, about the size of your hand and perfectly chopped. Each salad had a distinct flavor with a diverse array of fresh raw vegetables.

Compared to other raw food restaurant in the Chicago land area, the food is almost positively the best tasting, the best deal for your money, the most flavorful, and the menu is certainly complete!

Don't forget desert! I ordered a slice of raw carrot cake for desert. This was the single greatest slice of carrot cake i have eaten in my life. It was crafted elegantly in the form of a cheesecake. From what I gathered the "cheesecake" area was created from raw cashews agave and carrots ground to a fine blend of filling, and the crust was crafted from crushed walnuts pecans and almonds. All topped with an agave vanilla frosting.

Imagine that. A Cake thats actually GOOD for you from top to bottom!

For the average restaraunteer, the menu would initially appear quite small compared to your conventional restaurant experiences, but the diversity of foods, flavors, and spices covers more ground than you could imagine. There is a great selection of drinks, smoothies, soups, salads, appetizers, entrees, wraps, deserts and even a kids menu! (and you dont have to be 12 or under to order; Take that Denny's)

Danny and Kathy Living own and operate the Borrowed Earth Cafe, and are both incredibly friendly. They began attending a local raw food meetup group, and eventually took over when the moderator left. Just a few months into experiencing the raw revolution they coupled thier passion for raw food with some visualization techniques they had picked up from watching the secret.

For those who do not know, the Secret is a movie that highlights the connectivity of all living things and the Law of Attraction. After developing a love for the art of raw foods, they decided they should open a restaraunt. (Great choice I might add!) In October of 2007 The Borrowed Earth Cafe Was born.

Right in Downtown Downers Grove, this Quaint Raw food Restaraunt is right across from the Downers Grove Train Station, on the main strip of Warren Avenue. (Just try to avoid coming here during heritage fest)
